Sandy :
Since I came back from the prestigious Neuromorphic Workshop at Telluride, CO, I have been wanting to have a long day in the wilderness so when the heat wave calmed down for a week and Rick proposed this, I jumped at the opportunity. I had not done anything over 15 miles in over 6 months, so this was going to be a bit of stretch, but I could not miss an opportunity to circumnavigate my fourth volcano. In retrospect this was the easiest and most runnable circumnavigation compared to Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood and Mt. Rainier.
We followed the logistics from this website and went clockwise: https://nwdirtchurners.com/broken-top/
It took us about 4 hrs for the first 10 miles but those were the most technical and steeper miles. The rest of the 15 miles are quite runnable. We finished the whole thing in just under 9 hrs with 30 minutes of wandering at the start since the trails are quite confusing. If you park at Meadow Park then we recommend staying close to the road to get to Three Creek Lake.
